Infill redevelopment takes small, urban land parcels and uses innovative design and construction techniques to increase density on site. This reduces the building footprint and minimizes urban sprawl. The City lights project is the first of its kind in Winooski. The previous use was a single-family home with underutilized open space. Where a single house used to stand, there will now be 27 apartment units, commercial space and two floors of parking serving a much greater number of residents within the designated downtown. Furthermore, this type of development promotes a walkable environment, use of public transportation and energy efficiency. The City Lights project has set a high bar and example for future redevelopments in Chittenden County.
